(BNG 2023) A Research Project on Developing a Model of Undergraduate Retention

Jul-31-2023

Failing to complete university can be a traumatic and costly experience for students, as well as having financial implications for institutions. Understanding the factors that contribute to successful degree completion can help universities to better support students who are at risk of attrition. This project aims to enhance this understanding. It is based on an 'attrition risk model' that identified a network of inter-related factors that can be used to establish whether a student is in danger of leaving university early. In collaboration with student researchers, this project used Q methodology to evaluate and develop the model. The presentation explains how this contributed to the evolution of the 'attrition risk model' and provide delegates with a chance to reflect on the value of the model for their own practice.
