(BNG 2023) An Investigation into Muscle Relaxation and the Psychological Resilience Model

Aug-01-2023

This research illuminates the urgent necessity of incorporating stress reduction strategies into Competency-Based Medical Curricula (CBMC) amidst COVID-19 induced stressors. Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR), a potent stress alleviation technique, was implemented within the CBMC's time constrained curriculum, fostering resilience and wellbeing among medical students. A PMR program based on Gagne's instructional events was launched with voluntary participants, yielding favourable results. The program's alignment with various competency frameworks and its successful integration into CBMC, backed by Bourdieu's Theory of Practice, strengthens the intervention's potential applicability. Post-program thematic analysis highlighted five significant PMR impacts: Self-control, Self-realization, Liberation, Awareness, and Interpersonal relationships. Outcomes signify PMR's effectiveness in pandemic-induced stress mitigation, paving the way for the Integrative Psychological Resilience Model in Medical Practice (IPRMP). The PMR program presents a globally relevant, cost-effective model for similar stress-coping initiatives in medical education, gearing up future healthcare professionals for demanding scenarios.
