(BNG 2023) Suggestions for Engaging Faculty and Students in the Process

The Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota (UMN) has achieved a ~60% class response rate to course evaluations, which is significantly higher than the campus average. This conference presentation takes a deep dive into the method used at the Carlson School, which focuses on motivating student participation by means of instructor behaviors that encourage higher participation in course feedback. The authors share about the process, including confirmations that the design of recently-implemented practices is driving the higher response rates, as well as sharing a few surprises, some of which occurred while gathering feedback on the student experience during Spring 2023.
