Manage system categories and tags

Categories provide a way for you to classify and tag your projects and reports by a common, searchable term. Categories allow you to easily locate, manage, and sort your projects and reports in Blue.

  • Each category can also be assigned one or more subcategories, which will further narrow down your ability to search for and manage your projects and reports.
  • Only one category and one subcategory can be assigned per project or report; however, multiple subcategories can be created within a singular category.
  • Blue administrators can create and manage the categories and subcategories used to classify a project or a report in Blue.
NOTE
  • Categories - Only one category can be assigned to a project or report.
  • Subcategories - Only one sub-category can be assigned to a project or report.
  • Tags - As many tags as needed can be assigned to a project or report.

Manage categories

Categories are used to easily locate, manage and sort projects and reports. The system administrator is responsible for creating and managing the categories and subcategories used to classify a project or a report.

After a category or subcategory has been added, they will become available to you in your project or report.

Examples

Here are some examples of how you might leverage categories and subcategories in Blue.

You are conducting Course Evaluations at your Higher Education Institution and want to classify your Projects by year so that you can easily locate all of the Projects held for an entire school year. You create

  • A Category named “2019” that you then assign to each of your semester (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer) Projects
  • You also assign that Category to your 2019 semester Reports.

Your organization deploys Course Evaluations, 360 Evaluations, and an on-going customer satisfaction survey. In order to easily search for Projects and Reports separately, you create:

  • A Category named “360s”
    • Each year, you also create a Subcategory under “360s” for the numeric year (e.g. “2019”)
  • A Category named “Course Evaluations”
    • An “ILT” (Instructor-Led Training) Subcategory under the Course Evaluation Category
    • A “SPWB” (Self-Paced/Web-Based) Subcategory under the Course Evaluation Category
  • A Category named “Ad Hoc Surveys”
    • A “Customer Sat Survey” Subcategory under the Ad Hoc Surveys Category

Manage tags

Tags are used to easily find reports, projects, and questions within Blue. Tags are displayed within projects, reports, and question blocks as well as the project listing and report listing pages and are available for search purposes.

The Blue system administrator is responsible for creating tags, which all project administrators will be able to use.

NOTE

Tags can be modified by an administrator after they are created. The change will automatically be applied wherever the tags are used.
