Organizational links
Organizational links represent the hierarchical structure of an organization. The links created on this page will be used to set up dynamic groups.
Set up an Organizational Link
Unless you already configured an organizational link, the list will be empty.
- Click Create Organizational Link to add a new link and enter a name for this link (e.g., ‘Linking subjects to my departmental hierarchy’, or ‘Linking subjects to my campuses hierarchy’).
- Select the datasource that contains the hierarchy datasource you would like to map to the Blue Dashboard data.
- Select whether to map the hierarchy to the primary subjects (e.g., courses) or secondary subjects (e.g., instructors).
- Select the datasource that sets up the relationship between the hierarchy datasource and the primary or secondary subject.
- You are now able to map the fields in your Blue Dashboard demographics with each level of the hierarchy. All but the root level must be mapped.
Map the subject fields to the hierarchy levels (the first level is optional). If no fields are available, add the datasource fields in the demographics section for primary or secondary subjects.
If you don’t map a field to the root level (level 1), all subjects in your dashboard will be mapped to the hierarchy level. This is generally the desired effect, so it is generally recommended to leave the root field mapping blank unless there are certain subjects you wish to exempt from the mapping entirely. If however you do select a field to map to the root level, only the subjects that share the same name in that field as the root will be considered. For example, if you called your root ‘University A’, this is the expected value in the root column; subjects without ‘University A’ (e.g., University B, or blank) will not be mapped.
- Click Create to add your link to the dashboard. You may repeat these steps for additional organizational links for the Blue Dashboard.
- Save the Blue Dashboard configuration to apply the changes.
