Filter an analysis
Filtering options
MLY provides many filtering options throughout the dashboard to help you easily explore your results to uncover more and deeper data-driven insights at every level.

Widget filters
- To add filters to widgets, click on the
icon to open the Widget settings pop-up window.
- Select from the following filter options to customize the results displayed by your widget:
a. Type - indicates the widget type.
b. Title - customize the title to easily identify your selections so that you can create multiple widgets of the same type all with different filters.
c. Size - customize the size of the widget by selecting one of these three options: Small, Medium, Large.
d. Displayed stats - select some or all of the display statistics (Comments count, Sentiments, Recommendations)
e. Analysis type - if you have created one or more personalized analysis types, you can select one from the drop-down menu to filter your results.
f. Threshold - set the minimum number of comments per topic to determine whether or not the topic will be displayed to protect the confidentiality of the respondent(s).
g. Topic filter - by selecting specific topics, only comments with those topics will be displayed.
h. Demographic filters- select which comments will be displayed from the demographic filters imported with the comments. - Click Save to update your widget.
- Click Delete this widget to remove it from MLY.
Topic explorer filters
- To apply filters to your analysis in the Topics explorer, click Add filters.
- Select from the following filters:
a. Analysis type - if you have created one or more personalized analysis types, you can select one from the drop-down menu to filter your results.
b. Threshold - set the minimum number of comments per topic to determine whether or not the topic will be displayed to protect the confidentiality of the respondents).
c. Topic filter - by selecting specific topics, only comments with those topics will be displayed.
d. Demographic filters - select which comments will be displayed based on the demographic filters imported with the comments. - Click on Apply to update your analysis.
- The filters you have selected will be displayed beside Add filters. To adjust your selections, click directly on the filter names to review, modify, or delete them or go back to Add filters to add new ones.
- Clear filters removes all selected filters.
The Threshold will remove any topics where MLY has only identified a number of comments thar are equal to or less than the threshold. These topics will not be included in the Topic explorer view allowing you to focus on topics with a higher number of comments.
Topic summary - Most representative comments
To help reveal the main sentiments or recommendations related to a topic, the top 5, 10 or 20 comments related to the sub-topic selected will be displayed.
To access the Most representative comments for a specific sub-topic:
- Select to view either:
a. Sentiments or
b. Recommendations - Click on the
icon next to the sub-topic you want to explore, and a Topic Summary listing of the Most representative comments will be displayed.
- To view more or less of these comments, click on the drop-down menu in the Top comments line and select 5, 10 or 20 comments.
- To view comments for another Sentiment or Recommendation attribute, click on the drop-down menu below Sentiments or Recommendations and select a different attribute.
- To exit this display, click Close .
Demographic filter drop-down lists can appear as a checklist, as in the job family example below, or as a search box that allows you to search for specific words, numbers or abbreviations, as in the ADM job family example, and immediately displays comments relating to that job family in the comment explorer.
Sort by comment attribute - Import order, Positive first, Negative first, Most recommendations, Alerts - low to high / high to low.
Click on an option in the Sort by drop-down menu to change the order in which comments are displayed.
The Sort by : Default order displays comments in the order in which they were imported into MLY.
