MTM learning methodology definitions
Instructor Led Training: Training delivered face-to-face where one or more instructors teach pre-determined content during a scheduled time.
Self Paced Web Based: Training delivered virtually with no live instructor or facilitator. Training can occur during a scheduled time or be available upon enrollment until completed. Learning occurs without direct interaction with another individual, such as book learning or structured activities such as lab and exercises.
Online Facilitated: Training delivered virtually where one or more instructors teach pre-determined content during a scheduled time.
Instructor Led – Public: Standard training course open to individuals from different companies, with open enrollment and curriculum is not customized.
Instructor Led – Private: Standard training course open to individuals from same company and curriculum is not customized.
Instructor Led – Hands on Lab: Standard training course delivered by networking classrooms together.
Presentation: Live, one-way overview without curriculum. Used by client as awareness training on a new product or a feature. (Partner training and channels).
Meeting: Learning event where there is more of a collaborative and interactive process than a presentation.
Conference: Learning that occurs through a formal event where people come together to present results, workshops, and other activities.
Combination: By definition any combination of more than one learning method. Still Instructor led, but not the entire portion. Some lab work or exercises may be involved.
Mentored Learning: Training delivered virtually, without a live instructor, and taken on demand. Must also allow for interaction with a live person at some point during training completion (could be a scheduled check-in conversation with a coach while completing part of the content, the ability to chat with an instructor if there are questions / concerns during the training, working on an assignment with other learners via email / chat, or other similar activities).
Self Paced Facilitated: Similar to mentored learning but the material is from a kit, with tutoring throughout the process. Although learning includes a tutoring component, the student is expected to learn primarily on his or her own (but the tutor will help).
Self-directed Learning: More informal than self-paced web based. Learning that occurs without direct interaction with another individual that is also non web-based, but learner develops their own curriculum.
Self Paced Non-Web Based: Learning that occurs without direct interaction with another individual, such as book learning or structured activity such as lab and exercises.
Virtual Classroom: Collaborative live learning that uses an electronic interface and leverages self-paced instruction. Similar to online-facilitated but more content delivered through a virtual tool (WebEx, GoToTraining, Centra Systems). Instructor is not in the room.
Live Web Cast: Broadcasted training that is being delivered on one end and students watching that training on the other end via a video image, like a ‘connected classroom’.
Virtual Conference: Live conference, but online and not face to face. A conference is a formal event where people come together to present results, workshops, and other activities.
Walk-In: Similar to mentored learning but no registration, the learner just walks in so the learning is just- in-time.
