Set the minimum requirements for Blue authentication passwords

System wide password requirements for all user datasources that are taking advantage of Blue authentication can be established in System administration - Security and access - password policies.

NOTE

These password policies will not affect datasources that are utilizing a single sign-on solution. They will only affect datasources that are using Blue authentication.

Password policies

Configure the following default password conditions and settings:

  • Minimum length - the minimum number of characters necessary for a valid password.
  • Maximum length - the maximum number of characters that can be used to create a password.
  • Special characters - the acceptable non-alphanumeric characters that can be used to create a password.
  • Uppercase characters - the minimum number of uppercase characters required for a valid password.
  • Lowercase characters - the minimum number of lowercase characters required for a valid password.
  • Numerical digits - the minimum number of numerical digits required for a valid password.
  • Password duration - the maximum number of days that a password is valid before it must be changed. If you do not want the password to expire, select "Never" or zero.
  • Password history - the minimum number of passwords that must be different from the previous passwords. If you do not want to prohibit previous passwords from being used, select "None".

User passwords

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT USER PASSWORDS
  • Password Management options are only available if the datasource is using Blue Authentication.
  • If Blue Authentication is used, password notifications can be emailed to individual users or all users in a datasource.
  • Only the individual user and the blueadmin can cause password notifications to be sent.
  • Passwords are case sensitive.

Prohibited passwords

A prohibited password is a string of characters that cannot be contained within a password. You may choose to prohibit passwords that are considered common or easy to guess. Get started by navigating to system administration - security and access - prohibited passwords and add passwords that you wish to prohibit.
