Implement personalized questions

Question personalization (QP) is a task in Blue that allows a task owner to add unique questions to a questionnaire in order to personalize their questionnaire. In order to personalize questions, a group needs to be assigned the Question Personalization task in the project definition.

Personalized questions provide the opportunity for an institution/organization to create a single evaluation (questionnaire) that contains a set of questions required to be answered by all respondents, while also allowing targeted questions for specific subjects, chosen by the task owner (usually the secondary subject, typically an Instructor).

The questions that are created as part of the Question Personalization task are referred to as Personalized Questions of which there are two main types, selectable questions and customizable questions.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT PERSONALIZED QUESTIONS
  • Personalized questions require that a group be assigned the Question personalization task.
  • Response data for personalized question assigned to the secondary subject are only available in Individual reports.
  • Only one group can be assigned the Question personalization task for the primary subject and only one group can be assigned the Question personalization task for the secondary subject.
  • Question personalization tasks can only be created before the project is published.
  • The response scales for personalized questions are created by the project administrator, the Question personalization task owner can only modify the question title.
  • If a group has been assigned question personalization privileges for either the primary subject or the secondary subject there must be at least one corresponding personalized question before the project can be published.

Question Types

There are two types of questions possible when implementing question personalization. Customizable questions, where the project administrator adds a placeholder for a question and the task owner creates the actual question. Selectable questions, where the questions are provided by the project administrator and the task owner can decide to include them or exclude them from the questionnaire, but importantly, these questions cannot be modified.

Customizable questions

There are three types of customizable questions available, they are:

Personalized Comments
Personalized Single Selection
Personalized Single Selection Table

Selectable Questions

Customizable questions are perfect when the maximum amount of flexibility is desired. However, there are drawbacks to these questions, i.e. they can only be included on individual reports. Another method of providing a personalized questionnaire is through the use of selectable questions. These are questions created by the project administrator, they cannot be customized like a regular personalized question, instead, the Question personalization task owner can choose to include or not include the question.

Examples

Here are some examples of how Question Personalization might be used in Blue:

Course evaluation

Your Instructors would like to add questions specific to the required reading materials. You grant the Instructor Group the Question Personalization Task, allowing them to customize questions on the surveys for their courses.

360 Evaluation

Your Managers have requested the opportunity to add additional questions for goal-setting with their employees. You assign the Managers Group the Question Personalization Task, allowing them to add these questions on the 360 evaluation for their employees.
